Dalian University of Technology (DUT) is one of the key universities under the direct jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education in China. Founded as a school of engineering half a century ago and renownd for its well-established academic style. The University has now developed into a multi disciplinary school, offering a wide range of courses. DUT is also among the universities authorized by the State Ministry of Education in China to enroll overseas students. The university has set up a School of International Cultural Exchanges to take the responsibility for enrollment, education and management of international students. In order to further develop international friendships and promote the cultural and academic exchanges between people all over the world, this school takes overseas students from various parts of the globe. Now there are overseas students from more than 20 countries studying here, pursuing their bachelor’s or master’s degree or going through the Chinese language programs. STANDARD
Semester long courses beginning in March and September, offer threshold, elementary, intermediate and advanced courses. Teaching is conducted in small classes formed in accordance with the applicants’ requirements and the result of the placement test.
Compulsory Courses
Threshold and Elementary Level: Integrated basic skills training (including grammar), listening, speaking, Chinese character reading and writing
Intermediate and Advanced Level: Integrated basic skills training (including grammar), listening, speaking, writing and reading.

Electives
Taijiquan (Martial Arts), Chinese calligraphy, Chinese culture, background to China, audio-visual speaking practice, cooking, coaching class for the HSK Test. These courses are offered on a selective basis. Specific Features of the Program Practically Application of Mandarin Language Skills Class size is limited to an average of 15 people each to provide every student with sufficient individual training time with the teacher in class. Speech contests in Chinese supervised by the teachers are organized once every semester with all students participating. An ideal language environment is provided by the school for students to practice their newly acquired Mandarin language abilities.
Intensive Training Classes are held Monday through Friday, with twenty-four contact hours for compulsory courses and free access to the extra coaching class for the HSK Test.
Highly Qualified Faculty In addition to the full-time teachers of Chinese employed for the program, lecturers and professors are invited from the university’s Departments of Chinese Language and Mass Media Journalism as guest lecturers to offer their unique style of teaching the Mandarin language.
INTENSIVE
2 - 6 weeks in duration. Intensive programs are available during the Chinese holidays starting in mid January or mid July. The courses can be flexible and usually tailored to suit your needs.
