Yunnan University (YU) was founded in 1923 and is located in the center of Kunnming, capital city of Yunnan province.

Yunnan University is the largest and most comprehensive university in Yunnan province, covering disciplines in humanities, science, technology, linguistics and administration. Yunnan University is comprised of 24 colleges, 52 undergraduate specialties, 3 centers for training educational researchers, a center for the research of humanities and social science, a "key" laboratory (nominated by the Ministry of Education) and a state-level center for product research and development. YU has been authorized to grant doctoral degrees in 13 specialties and to grant master's degrees for 50 specialties. Additionally, Yunnan University has established 3 centers for circulative post-doctoral studies, and an affairs station for post-doctoral studies. Among the faculty, there are 244 professors and 395 associate professors. Over 16,400 full-time students are enrolled at Yunnan University.

YU attaches great importance to international exchange and cooperation, which have been developed between the university and 79 universities across the globe including Europe, America, Australia, Southeastern Asia, Japan, the Republic of Korea and the regions of Taiwan, Hongkong also.
